Chapter 1 Introduction
Our group s presentation is about the Hofstede s Cultural Dimension Theory. As we covered from the class, there are 5 cultural dimension in his theory;
1. Power Distance
2. Uncertainty Avoidance
3. Individualism vs. Collectiveism
4. Masculinity vs. Femininity
5. Long-term Orientation
However, major concerns have been expressed that Hofstede theory is almost forty years old data to the present conditions .And this information could be inaccurate because this study was only conducted in single organization called IBM at that time, so it is not fair to say that foreigner s cultural values can represents the Korean s values toward cultures. Also this study was based on a total sample of a hundred thousand participants, and this sample was not evenly distributed. Some nations were studied with samples of several thousand, while others were represented by samples as small as 74 and 80.
