The Maya is a Mesoamerican civilization, noted for its language, art, architecture, mathematical and astronomical systems.
the Pre-Classic period (2000 BC to 250 AD)
the Classic period (250 AD to 900 AD)
the Post-Classic period until the arrival of the Spanish
The Maya civilization extended throughout the southern Mexican states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Yucatán
It also extended throughout the northern Central American region, including Guatemala, Belize, and western Honduras.

What were the reasons for its collapse?
Non-ecological theories:
foreign invasion, peasant revolt, and the collapse of key trade routes.
Ecological hypotheses:
environmental disaster,
epidemic disease, and
climate change.
