3. Theory
Electrolysis : Electrolyte is disintegrated as constituent causing chemical change by current.
- Construction : Soak white gold or carbon electrode in electrolyte solution and connect in power supply and leading wire.
- If flow direct current in electrolyte aqueous solution or melt, cationic is reduced at cathode and anion is oxidized at anode.
Cathode : cationic + e- → simple substance
Anode : anion → simple substance + e-
Electrolytic cell : a type of chemical cell in which the flow of electric energy from an external source causes a redox reaction to occur.
Faradays Law of Electrolysis
- Rule that explain relation between mass of created material and spilling quantity of electric charge when electrolysis occurs.
1)First law : Creation and exhausted amount of substance in electrolysis are proportioned quantity of electric
2)Second law : Amount of substance educed by fixed quantity of electric charge is proportioned atomic weight / charge number of ion.

m : the mass of the substance liberated at an electrode
Q : the total electric charge passed through the substance
F : 96,485 C mol-1 is the Faraday constant
M : the molar mass of the substance
z : the valency number of ions of the substance (electrons transferred per ion)
1F = Quantity of electric charge of electron 1mol = Quantity of electric charge of 1 electrons × Avogadros number = (1.60×10-19C)×(6.02×1023)≒96485C/mol
- When flowed quantity of electric charge of 1F, material as move electron 1 mole is educed.
